NIKOO™ RICE Rice Fermentation Emulsifier is a safe, PEG-free, mild, 100% natural O/W emulsifier from renewable raw materials. It is very easy to prepare stable cream emulsions and has significant stability at high and low temperatures. It has a light and silky touch and good spreadability. It has long-lasting moisturizing and nourishing effects, protects the skin barrier layer, can quickly penetrate into the skin, and increase the activity of active ingredients. Rice-derived emulsifiers are highly recommended for use in baby and pregnant women's moisturizing products.
NIKOO™ RICE Rice Fermentation Emulsifier is a functional emulsifier derived from natural green fermentation, which has the functions of whitening and brightening the skin, balancing skin lipids and water, improving damaged hair, promoting skin metabolism, and does not produce cytotoxicity.
NIKOO™ RICE Rice Fermentation Emulsifier has good performance in improving damaged hair such as coarse, hard, yellow, and split ends, and is suitable for adding to shampoo products.
The fermentation substrate is derived from rice. Lactic acid bacteria and yeast are mixed for low-temperature fermentation. The rice particles are modified and purified through the acid and enzyme production of microbial complex fermentation, which significantly enhances the rheological properties of the powder. The organic acid produced by fermentation acts on the amorphous region of the substrate particles to cause the long chain structure to break, making the molecular weight distribution of the particles uniform, reducing the branching degree of the single molecule, and avoiding the possibility of recrystallization. The low pH environment produced by fermentation promotes the rapid polymerization of particles, reducing the degree of formation of their own enrichment areas due to phase separation between particles with different structures in the product. The molecular structure rapidly polymerizes or forms a binding point with the outer chain of other molecules, and then polymerizes continuously to form a continuous phase gel network structure, which entraps the dispersed phase with a slow polymerization rate, so that the inner chain part of the structure is closed, and together constitutes the fermentation product to show viscoelasticity; the enzymes produced by microbial fermentation degrade the macromolecular proteins and fats in the substrate, which has a significant change in the rheological properties of the ultrafine particles of the fermentation product, which is crucial to improving the touch of the skin.
Scanning electron microscopes show that the rice powder particles that have not undergone this fermentation process are complete, polygonal in shape, and about 5um in size; the powder particles obtained after fermentation with lactic acid bacteria and yeast show obvious residual cavities on the surface, and the particle shape is extremely incomplete, which proves that microbial fermentation occurs inside the particles. The structure of rice particles is significantly changed after the controlled fermentation of rice using lactic acid bacteria and yeast mixed bacteria, and the elasticity of the product gel is greatly improved, which has excellent performance on the skin's water retention and touch; at the same time, the fermentation active substance shows immediate whitening, skin beautification and hair quality improvement effects

NIKOO™ RICE contains polysaccharides, polyphenols, oligosaccharides, amino acids, organic acids, modified starch, small molecule peptides and other ingredients. It inhibits tyrosinase activity, prevents skin pigmentation and improves symptoms significantly. This fermentation product contains free and bound polyphenols, which have tyrosinase inhibitory effects. Studies have found that rice contains a variety of phenolic substances with antioxidant activity. Usually, phenolic substances in unfermented rice are mainly present in a bound state, and they are bound to one or more sugar residues through hydroxyl groups. The hydroxyl group of phenolic substances is an important structure for stabilizing free radicals. The reduction of free hydroxyl groups will cause the antioxidant biological activity of phenolic substances to decrease. The enzymes secreted during fermentation can convert bound polyphenolic substances into free states, thereby increasing the effective ingredients that inhibit tyrosinase. This raw material has a physiological inhibitory effect on the activity of intracellular tyrosinase. Based on this, it has an inhibitory effect on skin pigmentation and can be used as a new whitening agent to prevent and improve pigmentation such as age spots and freckles. Polyphenols have an activating effect on mitochondrial cells, and can regenerate collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in the dermis to maintain skin elasticity. They are very good maintenance ingredients for preventing skin aging and improving rough skin.
NIKOO™ RICE intracellular tyrosinase activity inhibition test and results: After using blank control, NIKOO™ RICE 1.0% (weight percentage), and kojic acid 1.0mM to carry out tyrosinase reaction at 37℃, the DOPA value at a wavelength of 490 nm and the MTT value at 580-620 nm were measured respectively (as shown in the figure below). This raw material will not be accompanied by a decrease in cell activity and can significantly inhibit the tyrosinase activity in cells. 1 percentage point of NIKOO™ RICE has a stronger ability to inhibit tyrosinase activity than 1mM kojic acid.
Pigmentation inhibition test
The in vivo whitening effect of NIKOO™ RICE (1.5%) was evaluated by using a pigmentation inhibition test on guinea pigs. Pure water was used as a blank control and the application was continued for 6 days. At the same time, 500 mj/crri2 of UV-B was irradiated to the application site once a day in the morning before application. The pigmentation status of the irradiated site was visually observed every day. The results showed that the control area had severe pigmentation on the first day, while only mild pigmentation occurred after applying SUMER™ RICE (2.0%). The mild pigmentation turned into mild from the third day.
The results confirmed that it has a significant inhibitory effect on pigmentation based on skin exposure to ultraviolet rays.
Trial data test (using this test data to examine the inhibitory effect on skin pigmentation)
Test sample: 2.0% NIKOO™ RICE made into an emulsion;
Control sample: 2.0% deionized water was used to replace NIKOO™ RICE to make an emulsion
Test method: The pigmentation inhibitory effect of the raw material on the body surface was evaluated by a pigmentation inhibition test using 12 adult guinea pigs.
Irradiate the application site with 450 mj/crri2 of UV-B once a day before application, apply each emulsion twice a day (morning and evening) to the symmetrical parts of the left arm and right buttocks for 7 consecutive days, and visually observe the pigmentation state of the application site. Evaluation is performed according to the following evaluation criteria.

Test conclusion: After a seven-day observation period, it was found that the emulsion made of 2.0% NIKOO™ RICE had a very obvious effect of inhibiting skin pigmentation, with an effective rate of 100%; all the control emulsions had severe pigmentation.
NIKOO™ RICE can improve rough hair, inhibit split ends, and increase hair gloss
Because it has significant protective and adhesion effects on hair, skin, etc.; it has high water retention capacity and good foam stabilization in the formula. When it is added to cleansing cosmetics such as shampoo and hair conditioner, it can produce rich foam and a good feel when used. It can also protect and improve hair, inhibit split ends and breakage, and on the other hand, make hair feel moisturized and shiny after use.
Data test: Add 1.0% NIKOO™ RICE to make a cream/cream, and compare the cream/cream hair conditioner (control product) obtained by using deionized water instead of NIKOO™ RICE. Use a half-hair comparison test to examine the effect on hair.
[Test method]
28 randomly selected women aged 20 to 50 were selected as test panel members. The emulsion/cream hair care liquid of the test group and the control group was applied to the hair for several consecutive days. After 7 days, the combability, overall appearance of the hair and the gloss of the hair were evaluated according to the following evaluation criteria.

Safety
(1) Acute toxicity oral test
2000mg/kg of this raw material was orally administered to mice, and no deaths or abnormalities were confirmed.
(2) Skin irritation
According to the skin patch test method, 1 hour, 24 hours and 48 hours after the patch was removed, the skin irritation judgment criteria of the Draize test method were used to visually judge the erythema and edema of the patched area, and the average value of the subjects was calculated. The results showed that no erythema or irritation occurred to the users, and the safety was extremely high.
The amount of NIKOO™ RICE added depends on the purpose of the formulation, the type of cosmetics, etc.
1. For cosmetics for care, the amount added is generally 0.5-1.5%;
2. For cosmetics for cleaning, the amount added is generally 0.5-1%
3. For improving hair smoothness, it is recommended to add 0.5-2.0%
4. When used as an emulsifying agent, it is recommended to use half of the chemical emulsifier, and the amount added is generally 0.5-1.0% (based on NIKOO™ RICE solids). The recommended addition ratio is: NIKOO™ RICE: oil = 1:10 (mass percentage). Different oils need to be specifically determined when using emulsifiers.
How to use NIKOO™ RICE:
1. NIKOO™ RICE can be evenly dispersed in a small amount of polyol, then added to a 75℃-85℃ aqueous system, fully swollen and dispersed, and then homogenized and emulsified.
2. Homogenize at 8000rpm or above for 5 minutes.
Note: NIKOO™ RICE may increase the viscosity of the system. When used with thickeners, please reduce the amount of thickeners.
