Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, commonly called SMCT for short, is a very mild, non-toxic, high-safety anionic surfactant for personal cleaning products. It is an amino acid based surfactant with excellent water solubility, hard water resistance, and good effectiveness in a wide pH range. Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate has similar cleaning and foaming abilities to Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate(CMNK-40S), but is much low irritating and safer to the skin and eyes.
This versatile substance has a variety of synonyms, including Sodium Cocoyl Methyl Taurate, Sodium Cocoyl Taurate, and Cocoyl Methyl Tauride. It is a white, fine, free-flowing powder with a faint characteristic odor. CMT40S is soluble in water and is insoluble in most organic solvents.
