ME-9 is a versatile emulsifying base
It can emulsify all types of oil phases, regardless of their content in the formulation.
It can emulsify most cosmetic active ingredients, including chemical sunscreens and mineral shielding agents.

ME-9 is a glycosidic liquid crystal type emulsifier derived entirely from plant-sourced ingredients:
l glucose, obtained from GMO-free natural sources
Fatty alcohols, derived from vegetable oils (including palm, coconut, etc.)
The glycosidic bond between the hydrophilic part and the lipophilic fatty chain gives the molecule perfect stability and excellent resistance to hydrolysis.
ME-9 is an innovative combination of fatty alcohols and alkyl glycosides, a perfect combination with outstanding emulsifying properties.
ME-9 is synthesized without ethylene oxide or any other organic solvents, and the ethoxylated groups that characterize traditional nonionic emulsifiers are replaced by natural polysaccharides.
Able to combine a variety of oil phases to obtain stable emulsions, a variety of cosmetics commonly used oils and fats (such as mineral oils, vegetable oils, silicone oils, polyester, etc.) can be used without affecting the stability of the emulsion.
Stable emulsions can be obtained regardless of the amount of oil phase added.ME-9 is water dispersible, 1% or more of ME-9 can spontaneously form stable emulsions even without oil phase.
Excellent compatibility with surfactants
ME-9 is compatible with cleaning surfactants such as anionic surfactants without reducing product foam.
ME-9 is also very compatible with cationic surfactants, a property that is useful in the manufacture of hair care products (conditioners, ointments, pour-overs, etc.), as detailed in the formulation recommendations.
ME-9 is a key factor in the formulation of sunscreen products because:

When you formulate a sunscreen product with ME-9, you can observe that: the emulsion maintains its smooth texture for a long time; the dispersion of both the chemical sunscreen and the mineral shielding agent remains stable and homogeneous; and, as a result, the SPF value of the emulsion remains stable even when the product is stored for a long period of time.
A. ME-9 has excellent compatibility with chemical sunscreens, optimal texture and stability.
Emulsions formulated with ME-9 have a soft texture, making them ideal for sunscreen product bases.
Regardless of the type of stabilization system used, emulsions based on ME-9 maintain a smooth texture for a long period of time, which is not possible with conventional emulsifiers.
B. 1. Long-term stabilization of SPF value
ME-9 based sunscreen emulsions have long term stable SPF values that remain stable even after long term storage, and the efficacy of the chemical sunscreen will be maintained throughout the shelf life of the product.
B. 2. Excellent compatibility with mineral shielding agents: Stable and homogeneous dispersion of titanium dioxide: The emulsion system of ME-9 + SEPIFEEL ONE enables excellent dispersion of micro-fine titanium dioxide (20 nm, coated with dimethicone), as shown in the figure below, and the homogeneous dispersion is maintained throughout the shelf life of the sunscreen.
The emulsion formulated with the combination of ME-9 + SEPIFEEL ONE has a particularly smooth texture, which is maintained even after long periods of storage.
Further studies using ultrafine titanium dioxide with different particle sizes and coating layers confirmed the stability of the SPF value of the product over time.
ME-9 can be used in color cosmetics such as foundation formulations: emulsions containing anatase titanium dioxide prepared with 3% ME-9 have a smooth, homogeneous and stable texture.
The dispersion of titanium dioxide is optimal at a final pH value of 7 of the emulsion.

Recipe Recommendations
Additions: ME-9 can be added in amounts from 2% to 5%, depending on the required fluidity of the product.
Application: As a self-emulsifying matrix, ME-9 can be used for dispersion in water without the addition of an oil phase. In addition, this property of ME-9 determines its operational flexibility during application: it can be added to the oil phase or to the water phase.
It can be added to either the oil or the water phase. It is recommended to mix the oil and water phases before starting the mixing system.
Addition of silicone oils: In some formulations, silicone oils (e.g. dimethicone, cyclomethicone) are added in quantities of up to 2-5% to improve the feel of the emulsion.
Stabilization: The following stabilizer systems are effective in ME-9 emulsions
Carbo series 0.2%
SEPIGEL 305 or SIMULGEL EG 2.0%
SEPIGEL 305 or Hansen's Gum 0.5/0.5 %
MAGNESIUM ALUMINIUM SILICATE or HANSENGEL 1.0/0.5%
Feel: ME-9 can be used to formulate creams or lotions depending on the amount of emulsifier or the oil phase used. ME-9 gives creams a moist and soft texture, and lotions containing ME-9 give a unique soft feel to the skin after application.
