Hydroxypropyl Tetrahydropyrantriol (Pro-Xylane or HTP): A Key Anti-Aging Ingredient in Cosmetics
Improves skin elasticity, firmness, and reduces wrinkles
Product Overview
Puri-Xylane, commonly known as Pro-Xylane, is a xylose derivative with anti-aging properties. It promotes collagen synthesis, strengthens and elasticizes the skin, improves fine lines on the neck, and prevents aging. Pro-Xylane is a glycoprotein mixture derived from xylose. Because xylose is abundant in beech trees and promotes the production of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), psilocybin, extracted from beech trees, has similar effects to xylose.
Pro-Xylane is also a nonionic surfactant with excellent dispersing and emulsifying properties. Therefore, low concentrations of Pro-Xylane were initially used as emulsifiers or dispersants in skincare products, a situation considered overkill. However, due to the skin barrier and the relatively weak biochemical activity of Puri-Xylane, a high concentration of Pro-Xylane on the skin surface is required to maximize absorption through osmotic pressure, a concentration gradient. However, high concentrations of phosphatidylcholine have a high viscosity and are not very comfortable to use, so most products do not contain a high proportion of phosphatidylcholine.
Hydroxypropyl tetrahydropyrantriol's role in cosmetics is primarily manifested in two ways: first, it promotes collagen synthesis, and second, it stimulates the production of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). These two effects work together in the dermis, helping to maintain skin elasticity and firmness.
1. Boosting Collagen Synthesis: Collagen is one of the primary components of the dermis and is crucial for maintaining skin structure and elasticity. Hydroxypropyl tetrahydropyrantriol stimulates fibroblasts to produce more collagen, thereby strengthening the skin's support and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and sagging.
2. Boosting Glycosaminoglycan Production: Glycosaminoglycans are a class of naturally occurring polysaccharides with moisturizing properties. They absorb and store large amounts of water, providing long-lasting hydration. Hydroxypropyl tetrahydropyrantriol promotes the synthesis and secretion of these GAGs, thereby enhancing the skin's ability to retain moisture and maintain a hydrated, plump appearance.
Functions
1. Stimulates the production and construction of the GAGs (extracellular matrix) (e.g., a gel-like network of proteins and sugars that act as a scaffold and intercellular shock absorber), giving the matrix a gel-like structure and increasing cell and skin firmness.
2. Serves as a pathway for the passage of repair molecules, such as proteins that promote cell growth.
3. Utilizes the activity of the extracellular matrix to send signals to young cells while re-stimulating aging cells.
4. Strengthens basement membrane function, reducing allergies and inflammation.
Mechanism of Action:
How it works: Pro-Xylane stimulates the production of mucopolysaccharides (GAGs), increasing the water content between the ECM and the surrounding tissues. This effectively fills the gaps in the ECM, reducing wrinkles and enhancing the appearance of smoother skin. It also works at the dermoid junction (DEJ), promoting the synthesis of collagen VII and collagen IV, strengthening the connection between the epidermis and dermis, and restoring plumpness, firmness, and elasticity throughout the skin.
Benefits: Pro-Xylane stimulates the biosynthesis of GAGs and PG proteoglycans in the superficial epidermis. A deficiency of GAGs and PG leads to decreased skin hydration and reduced defenses. It also effectively promotes tight epidermal-dermal junctions, better anchoring the dermis for stronger, more elastic skin. Long-term use effectively improves wrinkles and fine lines on the face and neck, and promotes regeneration of damaged tissue.
Core Applications & Benefits
Due to its outstanding skincare benefits, Hydroxypropyl Tetrahydropyrantriol is widely used in a variety of high-end cosmetics and skincare products, particularly those targeting anti-aging and moisturizing needs. Long-term use of skincare products containing hydroxypropyl tetrahydropyrantriol can help consumers experience firmer, more elastic, hydrated, and more radiant skin, while wrinkles and fine lines appear less noticeable.
