Dimethylmethoxybenzodihydropyranol is a reducing whitening agent with dual capture of both oxygen free radicals (ROS) and nitrogen free radicals (RNS), inhibiting cellular oxidation to achieve anti-aging effects.
Free radicals and reactive substances are one of several mechanisms that trigger skin aging, they cause irreversible damage to cells and tissues and also affect the health of organs. They are therefore implicated in many diseases, especially peroxynitrite, a powerful nitrogen radical (RNS), which exhibits a wide range of deleterious effects on tissues in the form of lipid peroxidation, DNA damage, and enzyme inactivation through protein oxidation and nitration reactions.
Reactive oxygen species (ROS), on the other hand, are free radicals produced by endogenous sources and stimulated by external pro-oxidants.
Dimethylmethoxybenzodihydropyranol is an important molecule that traps nitrogen and oxygen radicals and is one of the most potent oxygen radical scavengers. As such, it is a powerful active substance that protects against skin cell damage caused by a wide range of free radicals and actives.
Dimethylmethoxybenzodihydropyranol has also been found to have a photoprotective effect on human epidermal keratinized cells due to its high absorption peaks in the 284-290nm wavelength range. Unlike other skin lightening products that cause skin irritation when exposed to sunlight, it helps protect the skin from UV damage.
4-Butylresorcinol is a potent human complex enzyme inhibitor that inhibits melanogenesis by inhibiting two enzymes necessary for melanogenesis, tyrosinase and 5,6-dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid-oxygenase. 4-Butylresorcinol is the most potent of the resorcinol derivatives in both in vitro and in vivo studies.
In the three processes of melanin formation in human skin, 4-butylresorcinol not only has an important inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity, but also its whitening activity has a synergistic effect in the process.
1, before melanin synthesis, interferes with tyrosinase synthesis and glycosylation, preventing the enzyme from being absorbed by the melanosome.
2, during melanin synthesis, inhibit the enzyme activity, as tyrosinase and TRP1 enzyme competitive inhibitor, reduce the promotion of melanogenic by-products formation.
3. After melanin synthesis, it increases the degradation of tyrosinase, inhibits the transfer of melanosomes to keratinized cells, and has a photo-peeling effect due to fatty acids. This function is enhanced by the presence of fatty acids and regulates the degradation of tyrosinase.
In product application, the phenolic group of 4-butylresorcinol has strong antioxidant activity, which is easily oxidized in the air and difficult to preserve, and it is very easy for consumers to use the product before it is absorbed by the skin and has been oxidized and lost its activity, so that it does not achieve the desired effect. 4-butylresorcinol's slightly water-soluble nature makes it difficult to be added to transparent essences, masks, and aqueous preparations.
