The Skin's Hidden Repairer | Recombinant Humanized Fibronectin

Fibronectin, also known as fibronectin protein, is a high-molecular-weight glycoprotein discovered in 1974 through international research. It possesses a variety of biological functions. Widely found in animal tissues and tissue fluids, FN is a large glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 450 kDa and exhibits diverse biological activities. It can activate and regenerate repairing aging and damaged cells, playing a crucial role in the reprogramming of the cell nucleus in aging cells and mediating vesicle transport. Therefore, FN is internationally recognized by the life science community as an "anti-aging protein."

Fibronectin is a large extracellular membrane protein present on the surface of various animal cells and is a major non-collagenous glycoprotein in the extracellular matrix and basement membrane.

Extensive research and clinical applications have proven that fibronectin is a key substance for promoting wound healing.

In recent years, numerous fibronectin products have emerged, making it difficult to choose. Today, we'll discuss why fibronectin is so popular and how it repairs wounds. Is fibronectin the same as collagen?

Why is fibronectin so popular?

Compared to the more familiar collagen, fibronectin has a relatively larger molecular weight and more structural domains and sites, resulting in a stronger effect in the human body.

Fibronectin can repair cells, penetrating deep into the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue, stimulating the cellular dynamics of these three layers, enhancing the skin's self-metabolism, promoting cell growth, fundamentally addressing various cellular problems, restoring cells to a youthful state, healing problem skin, and resisting aging.

Fibronectin is crucial in beauty applications and is hailed as a repair expert, primarily targeting: dryness and peeling, acne, collagen loss and breakage, sagging skin, sensitive skin, rosacea, post-sun exposure repair, steroid-induced acne, and skin damage after cosmetic procedures.

In simple terms, fibronectin can repair all types of wounds and is widely used for fresh wounds (plastic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, microneedling, post-laser procedures, etc.), burns, and chronic, slow-healing wounds (post-operative non-healing wounds, etc.).

Fibronectin and collagen are two different proteins. Collagen only has a filling function; it's a filler. Fibronectin, on the other hand, is produced by the skin's own cells, thus restoring skin elasticity.

Fibronectin can repair cells in all layers of the skin, allowing the skin to produce various moisturizing factors, thereby mobilizing its own moisture from the inside out to hydrate the skin, like opening up the skin's own water source.

Fibronectin, as a non-collagenous glycoprotein commonly found in the extracellular matrix, exists in more than 20 forms in the human body, widely distributed in blood, body fluids, and various tissues. It is both a regulator of cellular activities and an important scaffold protein for maintaining and guiding tissue structure and extracellular matrix composition.

Normally, fibronectin is quite inconspicuous, but when we are injured, it becomes highly active.

In the initial coagulation phase of injury, fibronectin is released from platelets and deposits on damaged collagen and fibrin, enhancing platelet adhesion, phagocytic and fibroblast migration, and cell proliferation. It also activates neutrophils, enhancing their adhesion and accelerating their aggregation to the wound area.

In the middle stage of wound healing, fibronectin is an important chemokine for fibroblasts, enhancing cell adhesion and chemotaxis by helping to maintain the cytoskeleton structure. When fibronectin cross-links with fibrin and adheres to the blood clot, it helps guide fibroblasts to rapidly enter the wound area.

The fibroblasts entering the wound area spin a fibrous network, which marks the beginning of healing. Subsequently, collagen, heparan sulfate, proteoglycans, chondroitin sulfate, and other extracellular matrix components are deposited on this network. In this way, the injured area is "filled" after a period of time.

Finally, fibronectin helps reorganize the basement membrane beneath the epidermis, ensuring normal keratinization.

Furthermore, researchers have inferred from experimental results that fibronectin may also have a repairing effect on radiation-induced skin damage, and exogenous supplementation of fibronectin may aid in the repair of radiation-damaged tissue.

In short, in skin wound repair and healing, fibronectin can shorten wound healing time and reduce scarring, thus finding widespread application in regenerative medicine. In skincare, fibronectin's repairing effect manifests as promoting normal skin metabolism, smoothing fine lines, delaying aging, and preventing abnormal melanin secretion, resulting in whitening and fading of dark spots.
