In 2006, PENTAPHARM, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Royal DSM Group (DSM), extracted a tripeptide protein from natural snake venom, which, like Botox, also has the effect of paralyzing neurons. DSM then successfully synthesized an artificial snake venom-like protein, SYN-AKE, which is highly effective in wrinkle reduction and is safer and more effective than Botox.

Mechanism of action:
SYN-AKE is mainly used as an effective wrinkle eliminating active product by relaxing facial muscles.SYN-AKE acts on the postsynaptic membrane and is a reversible antagonist of muscle nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.SYN-AKE binds to the ε-subunit of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, thereby blocking the binding of acetylcholine to the receptor, resulting in the receptor being continuously closed.
